In this episode of The New Warehouse Podcast, host Kevin visits Medusa Distribution in New Jersey to meet with Tomas David Ye, the founder of Perseuss. This is the warehouse where the Perseuss cartonization software was developed, tested, and proven in real-world operations.
Watch the video to hear how Perseuss helps warehouses reduce shipping costs by optimizing how orders are packed.
Built from Experience: From Amazon to Medusa
Tomas David Ye began his career solving complex logistics problems at Amazon. With a background in theoretical mathematics and experience in both European and US operations, he worked on areas like truck routing, storage optimization, and recommendation systems.
After five years at Amazon, Tomas left to build technology that solved real problems for growing businesses. He met the Andrew Haner, COO of Medusa Distribution, analyzed their warehouse data, and quickly uncovered a significant opportunity. Their warehouse was losing money by making manual packing decisions without factoring in carrier rate cards or order profiles.
That was the beginning of Perseuss.
What Makes Perseuss Cartonization Software Different
Most cartonization tools focus on minimizing space. But shipping cost is not just about size. Carrier rates, box dimensions, weight brackets, delivery zones, and service agreements all play a critical role.
Perseuss cartonization software is different because it is:
Price-aware: Uses your real carrier contracts and rates
Optimized for margin: Selects the best packing configuration based on total cost, not just volume
Integrated: Connects with WMS systems or runs on standalone interfaces with tablets or put-to-light systems
Flexible: Works across parcel and pallet shipments with multi-box logic
By simulating different combinations of boxes and carriers, Perseuss recommends the most cost-effective way to ship every order.
Ideal Use Case for Perseuss
Perseuss cartonization software is designed for high-volume B2B and multi-item fulfillment.
It is especially valuable for warehouses that:
Ship 30 to 100 items per order
Pack parcels weighing 20 to 60 pounds
Use multiple carriers like UPS, USPS, and FedEx
Want to automate packing logic based on cost, not just space
Tomas found that many warehouses try to fit every order into one large box. But in many cases, splitting the order into two or three smaller boxes results in lower shipping costs, especially for long-distance deliveries.
This type of optimization is difficult for humans to calculate on the fly. That is where software like Perseuss becomes essential.
Results at Medusa Distribution
Medusa Distribution served as the test lab for the Perseuss software. After running thousands of orders through the platform, the results were clear:
Shipping costs reduced by up to 15 percent
Packers followed optimized packing instructions with real-time guidance
Daily savings were tracked and shared with the team
A gamified interface helped boost engagement and adoption
Packers now compete to see who can generate the most savings, creating a stronger connection between the warehouse floor and business performance.
What’s Next for Perseuss Cartonization Software
The success at Medusa validated the approach. Perseuss is now expanding to work with more warehouses, 3PLs, and fulfillment centers. Key features in development include:
Automated parcel vs pallet decision-making
Deeper integration with warehouse management systems
Self-service dashboards for logistics and operations managers
While some WMS providers offer basic box selection tools, Perseuss focuses on optimizing every shipment for total cost. That is why it is quickly becoming the preferred cartonization software for operations teams that want to improve profit margins without changing packaging materials.
